How to Apply Wallpaper

Adding wallpaper to a room is a great way to add character and is quite inexpensive. We recommend having a buddy to assist with the wallpaper application. The first time we applied it to our dining room wall was somewhat of a challenge but we learnt a great deal. Our biggest advice when learning to apply wallpaper is to be patient and take your time. WallpaperInstallation

Step 1: Spackle and sandpaper the wall you will be applying the wallpaper to smooth out any imperfections.

Step 2: Pick a starting point for your wallpaper. The first strip of wallpaper should line up with the last strip of wallpaper you will be applying. We highly recommend starting and finishing the wallpaper in a corner. The focal point of the room should have the least amount of seams.

Step 3: Use a tape measure and a pencil to mark where on the wall the paper will be placed.

Step 4: Pour premixed clear wallpaper glue into a paint roller tray. Use a small paint roller to apply it quickly and evenly to the back of the paper. (Some wallpaper comes prepasted, so you can just dampen it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.)

Step 5: Now apply the paper one strip at a time, smoothing each onto the wall from the center outward using an 8-inch plastic smoother. For long strips, use a stepladder and work from the top down. The seams of side-by-side strips should butt against one another, not overlap; make sure these seams lie flat by using a seam-roller.

Step 6: Once a wallpaper piece is up, you have about 10 minutes to perfect its placement on the wall. Carefully push any air bubbles out toward the borders.

WallpaperStep 7: Give the wallpaper a few hours to dry completely. Wash off excess glue with a damp natural sponge, continuing to smooth the wallpaper as you go.

Step 8: Celebrate with a bubbly beverage!
